Perpsective Boost

Things are a little sad around here lately.

As some of you know, our family lost some great family friends in a tragic plane accident.  And ironically, my last blog post was about Dr. Z and his flying.  He loved to fly.

Their accident was quite unexpected and fast.  They left behind 3 college age kids - who our family is so close with.

Since this happened, Robert and I have had a huge perspective boost.  About what matters and what doesn't.  Even though we know they are in the arms of Jesus now, it's still hard.  They're gone.  You never know when your day will come.  And are you ready?

Things that cross my mind are:

- have I told my family I loved them today.

- what was the tone of my last conversations with my husband, kids, and other family members.

- did I spend my time today complaining, or being grateful for all that God has given us.

- am I speaking words of Life or Death into those who come across my path.

- there really is something bigger than this little life we live - there is ETERNITY!

- God's ways are higher than our ways, and sometimes, we just won't understand until we stand face to face with Him.

That doesn't mean it's still hard.  And sad.  And you just really miss them for a while.  But you get through it one hour at a time.

I look forward to how their life and death forwards the Kingdom of God!

I found this video that my mom put together about a month ago of one of their many flying adventures with Dr. Z.  And then another one (below) of Dr. Z and my mom flying around the lake!

  1. goodness...what sad news. what good reflections though. it is so hard sometimes not to get mired down in the day-to-day details that we forget His bigger picture. hang in there.

  2. I totally agree about the lesson in perspective ... I try to keep it in mind every day, but inevitably I fail.

I live in Birmingham and my mom grew up here; she is coming over from Atlanta for the funeral. She and Dr. Z were close friends throughout their high school years and double-dated a lot. Our family mourns for their kids and everyone else left behind to pick up the pieces and move on. Our prayers are with you, too, as you grieve.

If you don't have anything nice to say, then, please don't say anything at all! THANKS!
