Couldn't Resist

You know I can't keep my blog the same for long!

Happy Spring! Even though it's 30 degrees outside!!!

April Showers...Please Bring Flowers

There are 2 definite things about me. One: I do not have a green thumb. And Two: I am not the craftiest person in the world. But I do give it a try every once in a while.

For our secular Easter craft/decoration this year, we kept it simple and did an easter egg tree. Last year we had a bit of a problem with Landon eating the dye tablets from the egg dying kits!! And then after we dyed them, I kept finding them all over the house! Needless to say, I haven't decided if I want to do them again this year. BUT, the egg tree has got to be the cheapest decoration you can do. And the kids have fun too. It actually kept them busy (and outside) for a while. Lillian kept pulling them down, of course!

Now onto my black thumb. I wanted to plant flowers around the mail box. Keeping it simple...since the rest of our yard isn't professionally landscaped. But I though a little color at the end of the driveway would be nice. Lovey helped me since she's a pro at know what to plant and where/when.

I just hope I don't kill them. I have to remember to water them - sadly that's the hardest part for me. But I'm hoping some April showers can help me out with that!

They loved sprinkling in the osmecote in (a.k.a. plant food).

Maybe my green thumb will turn around after all. But I'm not too sure. I think it runs in the family. Because my sweet cousin has a hard time keeping plants alive too! :-) Rachel...I'm right there with ya!!

My Night

9:55 p.m. Transformer blows and power goes out. {I'm counting the seconds until the kids freak}

9:56 p.m. First set of stumbling, confused footsteps - Landon whimpering can't find his way to our room.

9:57 p.m. Wake Robert up (not awake yet) and make him go find candles/flashlight/phone

9:58 p.m. Olivia calls for us and wants me to come get her (and Lillian)

10:00 p.m. Set up pallets on floor, kids start arguing who sleeps closest to the bed. Landon wins.

10:01 p.m. Robert turns on radio, music starts playing, Lillian starts dancing and clapping in our bed. {Great! It's gonna be a long night}

10:10 p.m. Blow out candles, tell everyone to go to sleep. Un-powered alarm system starts beeping every 30 seconds on the dot.

10:20 p.m. Robert escorts extremely wiggly, loud snoring child Lillian back to her bed...and gets in bed with her.

10:40 p.m. Leaves Lillian's bed and goes and rips alarm system out of wall pulls the batteries out so it quits beeping. Can't sleep so fumbles around in the den. {Doing what I have no idea..but I found trail mix out this morning} :-)

10:45 p.m. Olivia starts grinding her teeth and still awake Landon tell her (thinking she hears him) that he doesn't like it when she does that. I say, groggily, "Landon, shhh, go to sleep"

11:00 p.m. I think everyone is asleep - well, at least me...and that's what counts right! ;-)

1:00 a.m. Power starts to come on...yay...oh, not quite...another transformer blows. Doze back off into lala land.

2:25 a.m. Power officially comes back on. And thank goodness that didn't wake anyone up. Then realize my coffee isn't going to go off and be hot and ready at 5:56 a.m. like it does every morning! I guess I'm just going to have to sit there and wait for it to brew. Oh well.

Doze back off for a couple more hours of sleep...I hope.

A few more things:

1. I'm so glad it Friday and ALL the kids get to go down for long afternoon nap - probably me too! This week flew by!

2. I can NOT WAIT to watch Slumdog Millionaire this weekend. I will hunt it down until I find it at a movie store. It's the one thing I've asked for Robert to "make happen" this weekend. I mean, not that he has to make it happen, you know what I mean. It's just something I've been talking about seeing for weeks now...and it just came out on video and I think it'd be super fun to watch it with him...sans kids. I'm hoping that this movie won't fall into the same categories as the other "oscar movies" I've seen. Weird with no ending.

3. It is supposed to be beautiful this weekend, and I can't wait to enjoy it with the fam! I hope everyone has a GLORIOUS weekend!!

You Really Are There

It happened. It hit me. There really is a baby in there. Because up until now, it didn't feel real. I don't feel pregnant. Others don't think I look pregnant. (Note the "others". I can feel/see the little grapefruit-sized ball in there...but you know.) Life is so busy (in a good way) that I just don't have time to day dream about this little one. Sadly, we hardly even talk about it! I know...awful, huh.

But yesterday, as I was having some down time, I officially felt the baby kicking around. I had been suspecting little movements for a while, but couldn't say 100%.

At the risk of sounding extremely cliche, I tell ya, there is really just nothing like it. It almost brought tears to my eyes. The feelings are so sweet...the little bumps low in the belly. Considering there is not much that I love about being pregnant, this is something that you can't help but get excited about and want to keep feeling!

Now I just can't wait until Olivia can feel it. Shouldn't be too much longer now. Supposedly, in the next few weeks, the baby doubles in size or weight...or something like that. So maybe this will help it all sink in. Because Lord know, that in about 5 months, it's going to be my LIFE!

Bowtastic

If there are any moms out there like me, it kills you to see your little girl without a bow in her hair. Olivia was practically born with a bow in her hair...literally had one in her hair minutes after she was born! Seriously.

See...minutes old!!

Lillian wore one for a while when she was little, but then just didn't have enough hair to put a bow with a clip in it and stay! And she was eating the ones I was "gluing" on her head. And so it became a hazard to her health. Now she is finally getting enough hair to hold them, and she's getting better at keeping them in and not pulling the bow out.

And around here, we have a thing called a bow fairy. Bows just seem to disappear! And the cute ones are expensive!! I had made some bows before, but could just never get it down pat. I pulled out my "crafty box" with my ribbon and glue gun at it and decided to give it another go.

This particular tutorial I used came from HERE. Though, of course, I tweaked mine bows a little. Instead of using wire (which I didn't have on hand and didn't want to go buy) I used a needle and thread to keep the peaks lined up - and sewed through it then wrapped the thread around. Also, I put a knot in the center of the bow with the ribbon I wrapped around and I used fray check instead of a lighter (because I had it already). I think they turned out just perfect!!

What do you think?

The only $$ I did spend was $3.94 for 2 spools of ribbon for Lillian - which will make 10 bow at least and $1.94 for 8 barrettes for Olivia. I need to get some wider ribbon for Olivia's bow and for a few dollars, I'll have SO many more bows than what I could go and buy!

I hope this also saves you some $$ and keeps our girlies looking so cute!
